Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers before you schedule a mobile notary appointment.

Do you come to me?

Mobile visits may be available at homes, offices, hospitals, assisted living facilities and other agreed locations. Share your ZIP code so we can confirm coverage and travel fees.

What ID do I need?

Bring current, acceptable identification. Examples can include a California driver’s license, state ID or passport. The notary must verify that the identification meets applicable California requirements.

Can I sign before you arrive?

Do not sign in advance if the notarial act requires you to sign in the notary’s presence. Bring the document complete but unsigned and follow the receiving agency’s instructions.

Can you notarize a copy of my birth certificate?

California notaries generally cannot certify copies of birth certificates or other vital records. California permits a notary to certify a copy of a Power of Attorney under specific conditions. Ask the agency that issued or receives the document about its accepted process.

Do you give legal advice?

No. A notary public is not an attorney by virtue of being a notary and cannot provide legal advice, choose a document for you or explain its legal effect.

Can you notarize if the signer is not present?

No. The signer must personally appear before the notary for the notarial act. The notary must also be satisfied that the signer is willing and meets the applicable awareness and communication requirements.

Do you offer Remote Online Notarization?

This website does not advertise Remote Online Notarization as an available service. Contact the business to confirm whether a compliant service is offered.

How much does a mobile notary cost?

California sets maximum fees for specified notarial acts. A separate travel or convenience fee may apply and must be agreed upon before travel. The exact quote depends on the location, timing and requested service.
