How It Works & What to Bring
A little preparation helps your appointment go smoothly.
Book a time
Send the document type, signer count, address and preferred date/time. We confirm availability and the travel fee before traveling.
Bring valid ID
Bring acceptable, unexpired identification. Examples may include a California driver’s license, state ID or passport. The notary must determine whether the ID meets current California requirements.
Keep documents unsigned
Bring the complete document, but do not sign it until instructed. Do not leave required sections incomplete unless the document instructions say otherwise.
Sign in person
Sign in front of the notary when required. The notary completes the applicable certificate and journal process.
Signer presence and awareness: “Signer must be present, aware, and able to communicate. I cannot notarize for someone who is not there.” The notary must be satisfied that the signer is willing and has the capacity required by law.
Before the appointment
- Confirm the exact document and number of notarized signatures.
- Confirm the travel / convenience fee before dispatch.
- Make sure each signer who needs notarization can personally appear.
- Check with the receiving agency if it has special document or certificate instructions.
